Bob Sattergren
Greater Portland USBC
Bob Sattergren is a doer. Instead of taking a back seat when he believed that BVL was not receiving due cause at his association, he stepped up and took the reins. When asked if he would like to chair the committee, Bob did not hesitate to accept the assignment. Bob understands the need: He served 33 years with the Air Force and Air Force reserve. BVL is important to Bob as a league bowler and, through his efforts at the league level, he always made sure that his league gave a little extra if they could.
This year as the BVL representative at the association level, Bob started a “Share your Share” campaign. This is a campaign to get every league to “share” their half of the 50/50 money they raise on their bowling night during Veterans Week. Many leagues did participate and, to date, they have raised over $2000! Bob also arranged for the local American Legion color guard to present the colors during their annual banquet. Then, he arranged for the speaker that evening, asking the representatives from the area Veteran’s Affairs office to talk about the local VA hospital and the importance of the BVL campaign to support the vets. Explains Peggy Van Horn, who is a member of their Board of Directors, “It really made an impact on the audience. It was a wonderful sight with the color guard and a very moving speech. We believe that Bob, as well as his daughter and his son-in-law (who are both in the Air Force!) deserve a little spotlight of their own for all they have done.”
