The top five states, along with the top five local associations, which contributed to Bowlers to Veterans Link (BVL) during the 2007-2008 league season were recognized for their efforts during the annual USBC convention held recently in Reno, Nev. The awards were part of the BVL presentation delivered by Board Chair Darlene Baker.
Baker thanked all associations which participated in the annual campaign. "The mission to support America's service men and women depends on all of us," Baker commented. "BVL is bowling's oldest and most successful charity, but we can't meet our goals without the strong leadership of our associations."
Continued Baker, "We are very fortunate to have hundreds of associations supporting our cause, and our top contributors - 'BVL's Best' - are truly exceptional."
The Nation's Capital Area USBC Assn. maintained their hold on the first place rankings in BVL local association donations by raising $19,004.34 during the season. In second place was the Joliet Area USBC WBA with $8,156.59. The Minneapolis USBC Association was awarded the third place plaque for donating $7,000.00 to BVL National. In fourth place was Greater Anchorage USBC which raised $6,066.50, followed very closely by the Greater Richmond USBC with $6,062.39.
Those states that contributed the most to BVL National were, from first to fifth, Virginia, which raised $35,055.07; California, $25,000.00; Illinois, $21,137.78; Georgia, $19,014.64; and Michigan, $14,120.49.
The BVL was founded in 1942 by the sport of bowling to raise funds to provide recreational and therapeutic programs and equipment to veterans recuperating in VA Medical Centers, Vet Centers and State Veterans homes throughout the country. Headquartered in Metropolitan Washington, D.C. BVL coordinates programs in more than 1,100 communities across the U.S.
Reminder to those associations contributing to BVL: The deadline for contributions from the 2008-2009 league season is upon us. Please submit your donations today in order for your association to be recognized!
