As I prepare to celebrate the holidays with family and friends, I take time to reflect on 2016 -- both its joys and sorrows -- for me personally, my community, our nation and our world. Representatives from the Bowlers to Veterans Link fanned out across the Washington, DC area this Veterans Day to participate in a variety of events to celebrate and honor our nation’s military veterans – from a breakfast at the White House, to a wreath laying at the Tomb of the Unknowns, to a meeting with VA Secretary McDonald – the day was filled with programs and activities designed to raise the public consciousness of the service and sacrifice of America’s veterans.

The New Year marks 33 years of BVL’s partnership with the outstanding traveling performance troupe known as “Re-Creation.” It was 1983 when BVL joined forces with what was then an established USO troupe performing in VA Medical Centers. The BVL leadership agreed that the “Re-Creation” program fit very well with the organization’s mission to brighten the days and boost the spirits of those who have served our country. The same year BVL became a sponsor of the group, “Re-Creation” took over the national programming of the organization.
