| Spc. Carla Sanchez enlisted in the Puerto Rican Army National Guard on Dec. 3, 2003. She graduated training on Aug. 31, 2004 as a Combat Medic and was assigned to the 1065th Area Medical Support Company. Spc. Sanchez was deployed to Balad, Iraq in November of 2004. In July of 2006, Spc. Sanchez volunteered for a second deployment with the 130th Engineer Battalion and shipped to Baghdad. Spc. Sanchez worked as a Combat Medic for the Battalion riding out on Route Clearance missions as the mission medic. Spc. Sanchez earned a Combat Medic Badge for her medical interventions on missions and is the medic in her section to ride out on the most missions to a total of 155. Spc. Sanchez was also the Primary medical instructor for the task force Iron Claw Academy. This task force took over and gave training to other soldiers preparing to conduct route clearance missions. Spc. Sanchez was also chosen several times to meet with officials from Washington, DC coming for feedback from troops due to her experience. Spc. Sanchez returned from Iraq on October 29, 2007. She has four more years of service. |
