For more than 18 years, the Bowlers to Veterans Link has been guided by one of the great leaders in the sport of bowling. Since taking the helm, the Castro Valley, Calif. native Elaine Hagin has enlarged the reach of the Bowlers to Veterans Link to assist thousands more veterans, created new efforts to attract more participating local bowling associations, and increased fund-raising totals by almost $10 million.
Hagin began her work with BVL during her early days as a member of the Alameda County (California) Women's Bowling Association more than 35 years ago. Since then, she has contributed as a BVL torchbearer throughout her distinguished career in the sport of bowling.
In addition to her BVL duties, Hagin is a member of the Board of Directors of United States Bowling Congress. Currently, Hagin also serves as a member of the Advisory Board of the Women's Sports Foundation and as a trustee of the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame.
Hagin has been an active proponent of bowling's Olympic effort through involvement in the international federation, the Federation Internationale des Quilleurs, the World Tenpin Bowling Association, and the United States Olympic Committee Anti Doping Committee.
Her honors include recognition in the WIBC Hall of Fame, California WBA Hall of Fame and the Alameda County WBA Hall of Fame. She was named in 1998 to Street & Smith's Super 50 - Women's Sports Executives, to Strathmore's Who's Who 1998-99 and 1999-2000. Hagin was recipient in 1999 of the Women's Sports Foundation President's Award, acknowledged for her work and contributions toward the development of women's sports and to the Women's Sports Foundation. She also earned the 2002 Remo Picchietti Humanitarian Award for decades of dedicated and unselfish contributions to the sport of bowling.
She and husband Donald have two children.
